Panamanian Fernando Seguinol held that position from November 2017 until last September, when the organization wanted to reassign him to another job, before he decided to leave the organization.

Lorenzo will begin his fourth season with the Marlins in 2022. He was director of baseball operations in 2021, after being a special assistant for operations and scouting. Before arriving in Miami, Lorenzo was with the Red Sox from 2013 to 2018.

In addition, the Miami team promoted Adrián Puig as Lorenzo's adviser and in charge of international verification.

Puig joined the Marlins in 2014 as an intern in the player development department and spent the next seven years as an area scout (2015-2019) and professionals. In his new role, Puig will help evaluate and oversee each talent acquisition in the international free agent section, along with overseeing area scouts in the Caribbean and Latin America region.

Here are other promotions within the Miami squad's baseball operations department:

DJ Svihlik -- Executive Director of Amateur Evaluation

Geoff DeGroot -- Director of Player Development

Héctor Crespo -- Director of Minor League Operations
